Lady Kate and the Magic Circus by Kate Rees is a technicolour daydream bottled into paint, where every glance reveals a new performer in this fantastical troupe. At the centre is Lady Kate herself - a shapeshifter stitched from feathers, stripes, blossoms, and clownish grins, she's part ringleader, part illusionist, and entirely impossible to pin down. She’s the sort of character who tells fortunes in riddles, trains fish to leap through hoops of starlight, and insists her circus always begins at sunrise.

Around her, creatures and companions tumble together in delightful disorder: parrots perched like living jewels, dogs riding zebras, frogs dangling like acrobats. Each one is a co-conspirator in her spectacle, a reminder that the ordinary world is only ever a mask away from the marvellous.
